I analysed and wrote about multi-media companies and what media they have linked into their magazines so it will help me decide what media I link my magazine with.
Bauer
Bauer produces various numbers of different types of magazines. They have a wide range of magazines like woman’s, men’s, lifestyle, and garden and even music magazines. They produce both niche magazines, such as photography, cars and bike and mainstream magazines such as, closer and heat. As Bauer produce lots of magazines they have a large number of target audiences, in all different ages, for example Nuts is a magazine targeted at young male adults or mid aged males who like to entertain themselves by watch nude picture of woman’s. On the other hand they also produce magazines such as Pregnancy and Birth which is targeted at females who are pregnant and are going to give birth. This magazine could be targeted at any age of females from 12 years old plus because they can be pregnant at any age. The brand image is also wide ranged because they produce lots of different genres of magazines for different aged people with different interests. Bauer has linked almost all their magazines with online website such as heat and GRAZIA. Kerrang and Q are the two magazines that have all types of media apart from mobile; they have a magazine, radio station, TV programme and even a website. Heat has its own woman’s gossip magazine but now they extended their media to a radio station, which makes their target audience range wider.
IPC Media
IPC Media produces a lot of different genres of magazines but not as much as Bauer does. They have magazines like TV Times which is a TV magazine, Marie Claire which is a fashion magazine and even music magazines such as NME. As they produce a lot of magazines some of them are mainstream and others are niche such as Wallpaper*, this shows that they target their magazines at all different aged people. For example TV Times is targeted at nearly everyone as so many people watch TV and it’s for people who like to know more about the programme that they’re watching. However, some magazines are specific about their target audience like Marie Claire, as it’s targeted at older females aged 25-39 years and NME is targeted at 16-24 year old males so IPC Media covers up a lot of groups of target audience as well as specific groups of people. Like Bauer their brand image is very wide as they produce a number of magazines targeted at different groups of people. IPC Media doesn’t really link their production of magazine with other Medias apart from online website but NME has its own music channel and radio station.
BBC Magazines
BBC magazines are published by Immediate Media co. They produce many magazines for different target audiences but not as much as other companies do. However, they don’t produce nude, gossip or TV magazines etc. They mainly produce niche magazines and only one type of magazine for a specific genre for example there’s only one wildlife magazine called Wildlife and that’s it. They don’t have a variety of more than two of different magazines for the same genre apart from little children’s TV programme magazines and food magazines. They cover most target audiences as they produce magazines for pre-school, preteens, teens and adults. They make magazines as some BBC programmes for example there’s Dr Who, Top Gear, Top of the Pops even Waybuloo. The brand image is quite large because BBC is also a TV channel all over the UK so many people will be familiar with it. They have links between productions of their magazines with radio stations; website and most of their magazines have TV programmes such as Mach of the Day and Bob the Builder etc.
Development Hell
Development Hell only produces two magazines, The World and Mixmag and their both niche magazines. Mixmag is a dance and clubbing music magazine and The World is a soft rock music magazine. As they only got two magazines they don’t really have a lot of target audience and the target audience for their magazine is old adults. Their target audience has to be interested in dance or soft rock music to buy their magazines but the majority of people prefer mainstream music more. The brand image is all about the magazine. The only links they have to media is internet as they both have their own website. When you click on the picture of the magazine it enters you to their website.
Future Publishing
Future is biggest music-making publisher in the US and the UK. It is also the biggest guitar publisher in the world. They produce a magazine called Guitar World and it was positioned the world’s biggest guitar magazine and in 2010 they launched their first fully interactive app called Guitar World Lick of the Day. They mainly produce rock and guitar magazines which are targeted at people who are interested in rock music and guitars. Also, people who are learning or want to learn how to play a guitar because there’s a magazine called Guitar Techniques which teaches you new techniques on how to play a guitar. Some of their magazines such as Metal Hammer have a websites and an event. The link of the website of the magazine is under the subtitle ‘Websites’ and on the website there’s more information about the magazine. The event is targeted at the people who buy Metal Hammer magazines and who are interested in heavy metal music so they can find out more about the genre. Some of the music magazines have a subscribe button and you can sign up for newsletters if you want to be updated with the magazine and events.
